Since 1949, Mental Health America and our affiliates across the country have led the observance of May is Mental Health Month by reaching millions of people through the media, local events and screenings. If you have worked or are working through a community mental health program, sheltered or supported work program, rehabilitation program, or transitional employment program, we will consider the type and degree of support you have received or are receiving in order to work (see 12.00D).
Seeing a counselor for issues is great, but without an effective support system outside of the counselor (the best is a healthy family – which alone eliminates a ton of issues), the ability to change can be quite limited, and in many cases, may be impossible.
Our multidisciplinary team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, marriage & family therapists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, vocational rehabilitation counselors, certified nurse assistants, mental health workers, consumers and case managers.
In the state of Georgia, the Mental Health Program works in three areas: integrating behavioral health care into primary care, monitoring a settlement agreement between the state and the U.S. Department of Justice, and implementing a child and adolescent mental health initiative.
Funded by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), the Peer Specialist Mental Health Certificate Entry Course provides a 12-week long training for consumers of behavioral health services or their family members who are interested in becoming peer counselors/peer specialists in the field of community behavioral health.
